At cPanel, we thrive on feedback.  We utilize internal and external feedback in various forms to drive change and fine-tune our work lives and products.  Our CEO has championed this open environment for over 11 years.

We know a major key to our success is being focused on communication and staying connected with the individuals and organizations using our product.  Throughout the year, our Accounts Management team makes trips around the world to visit with partners, asking how we might improve and help usher in your success.  This feedback drives internal change, new features, and the direction of our products.

If Nick (our CEO) could have us visit every single customer, we’d be starting today.  In an effort to reach a wider range of the cPanel community and hear your voice more clearly, we’ve developed the cPanel Climate Survey.

The cPanel Climate Survey is a new tool we’re using to gain a broader scope and reach customer’s opinion that may otherwise be falling through the cracks.  It doesn’t contain any gimmicks, sweepstakes, or special incentives beyond asking you to help us improve.  We want to know what you specifically enjoy about cPanel, glaring details you see that need improvement, and creative additions that would help you better serve your clients.  We’re seeking your opinion through communication with willingness to expand our vision and product.

These surveys will be carefully read by various team members throughout cPanel, as well as being intimately reviewed by our executive team.  While our CEO can’t expect us to make 4,282 trips a year, he certainly can expect us to read 4,282 surveys, and we gladly will.

The cPanel Climate survey is open until 11-05-2011 and will take approximately 15-45 minutes to complete.

You can access the survey online at http://go.cpanel.net/survey

We sincerely appreciate your help and look forward to reading your thoughts, opinions, and suggestions of cPanel!

HostingCon is the premiere conference and trade show serving the hosted services industry.  In its seventh year, HostingCon brings together web hosts, data centers, cloud, software-as-a-service (SaaS), ISVs, and other infrastructure providers who make the Internet work.  HostingCon is an iNET Interactive event.  On August 8-10 at the San Diego Convention Center, HostingCon 2011 will host more than 1,800 web hosts, SaaS, ISVs, and cloud providers, to learn, network, and grow.

On Tuesday, August 9th at 9:00AM, Dan Muey (Linux & BSD Developer) and Aaron Phillips (Vice President of Operations) will be hosting a fun session using a format called Lightning Talks.

Mr. Muey will kickoff the Lightning Talks with a Lightning Talk about Lightning Talks.

What are Lightning Talks?
Lightning Talks are five-minute presentations given by various individuals and organizations about differing topics.  Lightning talks are educational in nature.  The primary goal is to teach the audience something in 5 minutes or less.

When will Lightning Talks take place?
9:00AM Tuesday morning.  Due to the dynamic nature of these talks, it’s suggested to arrive early to secure your spot and get a good seat.  This session is expected to be standing room only.

How Does it Work?
Each presenter is provided five minutes to give an educational presentation.  The presentations can be as simple or comprehensive as the presenter wishes.  There are no limitations on topics beyond being educational and non-promotional.  5 minutes before the session begins, we'll gather those wishing to present.  At the 4 minute mark a bell will ring to let the presenter know they have 1 minute left.  At 5 minutes, a gong will sound and the Lightning Talk will end.

There will be a small break between presentations.  During this break, 30 second announcements and/or advertisements will take place.

Who can participate?
Any individual or organization attending HostingCon can participate in both the 5-minute and short advertisements.

How can I participate?
Show up 10-15 minutes early, let us know you want to participate with a presentation or advertisement, and inhabit a special front row seat.  We’ll call you up when it’s your turn to present. Time will allow for 8-10 talks.  To participate in the advertisements, you will need to come a few minutes early to express your desire and be assigned a special front row seat.

What should I bring?
A single laptop computer will be available with USB.  Bring your completed presentations in either Microsoft PowerPoint, Keynote, or PDF format.  Once called, you will have about 18 seconds to prepare and go!

If you have any questions, please email aaron@cpanel.net.

We’re looking forward to a great session!

World IPv6 Day

The cPanel systems administration team has been hard at work keeping our network on the cutting edge of technology, with our latest project being the  implementation of IPv6.

As many of you know, IPv4 addresses are quickly running out, with new allocations soon only available in IPv6. In an effort to speed up the deployment of IPv6, on June 8, The Internet Society (ISOC) is hosting "World IPv6 Day." Participating along with many other companies around the world, we will be enabling IPv6 over our www.cPanel.net servers

(but not yet in the cPanel & WHM product – go.cPanel.net/ipv6)..

Our company website is currently available for people to access through IPv6 via http://ipv6.cpanel.net/, but on June 8th, we’ll be making http://www.cpanel.net/ available through both IPv4 and IPv6.  We will also be making our forums, http://forums.cpanel.net/, available through IPv6 as well. "World IPv6 Day" will give network operators worldwide an opportunity to test for any potential issues with IPv6 without risk of long-term down time.

The migration to IPv6 has proven to be a journey into uncharted territory. Unlike IPv4, IPv6 doesn’t yet have many documented best practices for implementation. We, like much of the world, are still learning the best ways to apply this technology. Although IPv6 is still relatively new to many, its implementation will be a very welcome change to how the Internet works as we know it.

It's story time at cPanel and as we enter this Mother Day weeked, I wanted to share with you the story of Chuck (aka Infopro on forums.cpanel.net) and a message left by his mother.

Infopro has been a longtime member of the cPanel Community and has spent massive amounts of passionate time participating in our online forums.   Within the last year, Infopro became a permanent member of the cPanel team and continues to be focused on interacting with the community and working closer with various people inside cPanel to help improve our product and keep the lines of communication open with customers.

During his first few weeks at cPanel, Infopro's mother called to leave him a message about his new job.   Like many other cPanel mothers she didn't quite understand his new position and what the cPanel Community forums were all about.   After listening to the message we decided to put together a Mother's Day Tribute.

Click to listen to the Mother's Day Tribue on the cPanel Podcast site.

cPanel sincerely appreciates every single employee and their life experiences including family, friends, co-workers, and past employers have prepared them to be part of what I consider a highly dedicated and motivated team with the sole purpose of automating web hosting operations through software and support services.

Happy Mother's Day!
